Video Transcript – Course Planning PAMELA CORREA Middle school kids are making choices that are going to affect the rest of their life. Kids decide at this level whether they're going to stay in school through high school, and if they're going to go to college. They're starting to make career paths at this time so stressing education, stressing the importance of education... to kids is critical. PHYLICXIA MOORE Well I've started thinking about what exactly I wanted to do and striving to do what is needed for as my career that I've chosen. REBECCA SALAZAR Looking back when I was a sixth-grader, I think, I didn't take college as seriously, I -I thought it was so far away: "I'm not going to be bothered with it right now." But now as far as school went by, I've started maturing more. I could see that, OK, this is a big deal. I'm going to have to start paying attention to this ... and I have wonderful friends who that are like Rebecca you have to stick to your work.. go to college, this is going to work. LUANNE PRESTON Students can earn college credit while they're in high school and they can take that college credit and do different things with it. They can use some of those credits to satisfy high school graduation requirements, they can use some credits to transfer to a four-year university, they can use some credits to satisfy requirements of an associate's degree or a bachelor's degree, so there's a variety of things they can do. CHARLES ENRIQUEZ They definitely want to sign up for as many college level courses like, AP classes, concurrent enrollment, dual credit classes, honors classes and things like that because those are going to be the classes that are going to prepare them for any college they decide to attend...
