Video Transcript – Why Go to College - Marcus MARCUS When I was in high school, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I believed my teachers, parents, (everyone, really) when they told me that I had to keep going to school after high school in order to be able to get the kind of job I want and have the kind of life I expect for myself. I had a few ideas about what I wanted to do, but I was a little overwhelmed with the choices. I asked myself a few questions about what I really wanted out of college. I made the decision to start at a community college so I could take my basics and explore my interests. I knew I was good at math, but I didn’t really know how that would translate into a career. But when I took an accounting class, I began to see the possibilities. So after I finished my Associate’s degree, I transferred to a university, and two years later, I graduated with a degree in finance. Now I work in a bank—and I’ve already been promoted once. I love my job, and just between you and me, I know I’m good at it. The crazy thing is that I never would’ve figured this out if I hadn’t made that leap and actually gone to college. Making that choice opened up a whole new world for me—for real. So take it from me…you don’t have to know exactly what you want to do with your life to go to college. But getting that education is a great way to figure it out.
